One of the easiest and most effective ways to sell items is by advertising to other students. Often the items you are selling, particularly furniture, will be what they need, and many of them would rather pay less for used items than buy new ones that they will have to sell in a couple of years when they move. Most universities have email lists where you can advertise your sale. Also, post flyers around on campus bulletin boards (you may need permission to post in certain locations).

One common way of selling a lot of items quickly is the "garage sale." You arrange to have a sale for one or two days, usually on a weekend, during which people can come by where you live and buy items from single books to furniture and appliances. You should advertise a garage sale in local newspapers; remember to include a few of the larger items in the ad, since this draws customers in to your sale. If you live in an apartment complex it is best to get the apartment manager's permission to hold a sale before you advertise it. Some buildings may not allow it.

If you are still left with items you don't want to take with you, and it is getting close to date on which you will be moving, ask your friends if they can use any of the items, and offer to give the items to them.
